Greensboro now offers recycling drop-off sites at the White Street Landfill and Solid Waste Transfer Station for paper, cardboard, metal, plastic and glass. The drop-off sites are for residents who have too much recycling for their regular residential containers. This service is free for City of Greensboro residents and $10 for non-residents.
Proof of residency is required (such as a water bill). When you arrive, proceed to the scale house window for unloading instructions.
Locations and Hours
The City also offers seven other locations for recycling glass only.
** Any vehicle larger than a 6x12 hand unload trailer without sides delivering cardboard & low bulk density material to the transfer station—whether personal or commercial—will be subject to the following charges:
- Fees based on total weight, and
- A $150.00 special handling fee
This policy applies to all cardboard & low bulk density material loads without exception.
Low-density solid waste consists of lightweight, bulky, or airy materials that occupy significant volume without adding substantial weight, such as packaging plastics, office paper, cardboard, foam, and food service items. These materials are best handled in flexible, high-capacity containers rather than heavy-duty bags.
Common Examples of Low-Density Solid Waste:
- Packaging Materials: Plastic film, air pillows, packing peanuts, expanded polystyrene (foam), bubble wrap, and plastic shopping bags.
- Office/Paper Waste: Paper, cardboard boxes, envelopes, shredded paper, and disposable food service items like paper cups.
- Plastic Waste: Thin, flexible plastic containers, such as water bottles, food tubs, and bread bags.
- Household Items: Light clothing, rags, plastic containers, and small household packaging.
- Miscellaneous: Disposable plastic utensils, food packaging wrappers, and light packing materials.
