Join us for the Hemphill Branch's AAPI Heritage Month Cinema Series, a month long showcase of classic and contemporary films created by Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander actors, writers, directors, and filmmakers. From the hard-hitting social commentary of Parasite to the magical musical adventure of Moana, each film explores a different aspect of the Asian/AAPI story across theme and genre.
On Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30 pm, we are screening Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro, the classic anime film directed by Studio Ghibli founder and legendary filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki, based on the manga series by Monkey Punch.
Here is a description of the film: "After a successful robbery leaves famed thief Lupin the Third and his partner Jigen with nothing but a large amount of expertly crafted counterfeit bills, he decides to track down the forgers responsible—and steal any other treasures he may find in the Castle of Cagliostro, including the ‘damsel in distress’ he finds imprisoned there."
