DESCRIPTION:To mark the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States, three Triad performing arts groups and five area churches will present Memorial Concert: A Commemoration of September 11, 2001. <br /><br />This special choral tribute is at 5 pm Sunday, September 11,&nbsp;in the sanctuary of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Dr.,&nbsp;High Point. Tickets are $10 and seating is limited. Advance ticket purchase is suggested by contacting the High Point Community Concert Association at 336-886-8100. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. <br /><br />The concert is co-sponsored by High Point Community Concert Association, High Point Community Chorus, Choral Society of Greensboro, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in High Point, Covenant Church United Methodist in High Point, Emerywood Baptist Church in High Point, Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, and Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro. <br /><br />The concert will feature a chorus of more than 200 voices and a 45-piece orchestra. The program includes Requiem by Gabriel Faur&eacute; conducted by Dr. Jonathan Brotherton of the Choral Society of Greensboro and Memorial by Ren&eacute; Clausen conducted by David Pegg of the High Point Community Chorus. Pegg describes Memorial as &ldquo;hauntingly beautiful and filled with raw emotional qualities.&rdquo; It was commissioned by the American Choral Directors Association for the victims of the 9/11 attacks. Memorial was premiered at Riverside Church in New York City on February 15, 2003, under the baton of the composer. <br /><br />The mass chorus will include members from High Point Community Chorus and Choral Society of Greensboro, and choir members from Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Covenant Church United Methodist, Emerywood Baptist Church, Centenary United Methodist Church, and Christ United Methodist Church. <br /><br />Additional funding and support for the concert comes from High Point Area Arts Council, High Point Convention &amp; Visitors Bureau, City of High Point, the Music Center of Greensboro Parks &amp; Recreation, City of Greensboro, Guilford County, The High Point Enterprise, Ann and Jim Morgan, Dr. Deborah Frazier Novak, Joel Williams Memorial Fund, and other generous donors.
